Alex Cardy

As an award-winning Australian Director of Photography, Alex Cardy is known for breaking barriers. Working across films, documentaries, expanded online projects and moving-image installations, Alex is passionate about exploring the space between story and documentary in hybrid filmmaking projects. Having moved to long-form projects, Alex has recently completed filming the feature-length documentary Nightshift (2021) and is set to work on multiple long-form endeavours in 2022.
In 2020, Alex was awarded the Gold Cinematography Award for Documentary at the Australian Cinematography Society Awards for Victoria and Tasmania. Her short films have also been elected at top-tier festivals, including Melbourne International Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival and Edinburgh International Film Festival.
